Very odd to see the so-called "Downing Street Memo" is gaining renewed traction in the American blogosphere.

This more than a month after the story was covered here in the UK.

Perhaps if some sections of the American media pulled their heads out of their backsides and read something other than the Washington Post and the New York Times they might pick up a decent story every once in a while.

It's hardly likely that most MSM US journalists did not know of the Downing Street memo story within 24 hours of it breaking in the UK. I suggest you look elsewhere for reasons why the story wasn't published.

But the question is will the memo have any real effect on US opinion? Bush unlike Blair did not make WMD's his only reason for wanting war against Saddam - e.g. Daddy dearest, Saddam being linked to AQ (ha!).

Therefore though the memo seems to be a big talking point in US blogosphere and elite media,it has to be remembered that the American people are over Iraq. They just don't care anymore! Bush may have negative numbers over Iraq but are the people going to move to impeach him and his adminstration over the war? Unlikely IMHO

Hey, what happened to my post? Here are 2 great posts about the inanity of this situation: one blogger reports on a paper that was pressured by its readers into publishing the story. Another blogger writes about the edifying spectacle of the press writing about its own refusal to write about this issue!

History will say the American people were affected with a severe case of sleeping sickness caused by the droning of the MSM about events that matter little to average citizens. The MSM has, or so it seems, decided to stop reporting on Iraq now that there is an "Iraqi Government" in place and "Democracy" is flourishing. One gets the impression that all the "news" is sanitized by the Administration before the MSM will report it thus resulting in a miasma of misinformation permeating the country.
