PAPA RATZY

We have a winner. The new Pope is Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger.

Ratzinger has campaigned against liberation theology.

He has described homosexuality as a "tendency" towards an "intrinsic moral evil".

He has called for pro-choice politicians to be denied Communion.

He has argued that Turkey should not be admitted into the European Union.

And any lingering possibility that I may return to the Church I grew up in in the foreseeable future has just evaporated.

It get worse! The Cardinal theorizing on music in 1996 warned that listening to music such as: Led Zeppelin, Queen, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the Eagles could endanger a person's soul.
(Kinda agree with him on the Eagles though.)
He also urged heavy metal bands and their fans in particular to "purify themselves." - Heavy metal of course being the personal favourite of the devil and all that!

So...nothin new at the Papacy then, in more senses than one! Ratzinger's final argument, that Turkey not be allowed into the EU, had me gasping. WTF has that to do with religion?

Benedict xvi feels that Turkish membership of the EU would (hahaha - get this) 'dilute the christian essence of the EU'
According to Benedict they don't share and understand the christian values of the EU.

Nothing, unless you count Islam as a religion.

But Jesus said.... oh, never mind. What has Jesus got to do with Christianity, right? (Let alone Catholicism).

Anonymous' comment only makes sense if Turkey = Islam, I mean if Turkey is an Islamic state. Jeez, Ratzinger is still living in the Middle Ages! 'dilute the christian essence of the EU'

Marco Polo,

Turkey has been employing thousands of Islamic fundamentalists in violation of its secular constitution.

At a news conference on April 11, Topuz cited Omer Dincer, the undersecretary of the Prime Minister's office. Topuz said Dincer has called for the toppling of the secular Turkish republic.

Turkey: I wouldn't choose a religion based on the position about Turkey....

I think it's absolutely normal that politicians who claim to be catholic are denied communion if they vote for abortion...it's a sin for the church and there are strong non-religious arguments to be against abortion which can be shared even by non believers (and accordingly reflected in state laws). Why should I be entitled to decide on another human being life?

What has to do the Liberation Theology with Christ?

As to homosexuality: I think that he condemned sexual acts by homosexuals and not homosexuals this is not different from considering a sin sex between a man and a woman who are not married and are not open to life...

I think that Catholic religion is about the life death and resurrection of Christ, the Holy Communion and the other sacraments, the communion of saints, the Trinity, Holy Mary etc... and if one believe in these truths then he/she does not care about the position of the church or the Pope on Turkey. Frankly who cares?
